RIOT - IoT Operating System

RIOT is an open source IoT operating system which enables programmers to develop applications on typical IoT devices, with no learning curve (assuming prior experience with POSIX and Linux). On a wide variety of IoT hardware, RIOT enables the use of the standard coding languages (ANSI C and C++), well-known debugging tools (gdb, Valgrind etc.), and standard programming paradigms (such as full multi-threading), while being energy efficient and real-time capable. RIOT OS needs only a minimum of 1.5 kB of RAM.

RIOT runs on 8-bit (such as AVR Atmega), 16-bit (such as TI MSP430) and 32-bit (such as ARM Cortex) processors. A native port also enables RIOT to run as a Linux or OS X process, enabling use of standard development and debugging tools such as GNU Compiler Collection (GCC), GNU Debugger, Valgrind, Wireshark etc. RIOT is partly Portable Operating System Interface (POSIX) compliant.

RIOT provides multiple network stacks, including IPv6, 6LoWPAN, or Content centric networking and standard protocols such as RPL, User Datagram Protocol (UDP), Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), and CoAP.
